NCO TEAM

The Squadron NCO team is the lynch-pin of the unit.  Nothing happens without their input or hard work.

Young people are rarely given such responsibility at a young age.  The Squadron NCO team (ranging from 15 to 19 years old) are responsible for assisting to run the unit every parade night.

Typically their duties involve:

  • Formation of the unit assembly and dismissal parade

  • Discipline, dress and deportment of the cadets

  • Management of a duty "shift"

  • Motivation, morale and welfare of the cadets

  • Taking of the unit fire registers

  • Updating the unit attendance register

  • Health and safety check

  • Allocating cadets to the unit cleaning rota

  • Check the cadets cleaning of the building

  • Security of the unit, it's personnel and belongings

  • Immediate action in the event of a fire or fire drill

  • Management of a flight or section

  • Instructing cadets in correct foot and marching drill

  • Advising adult staff of any potential problems or issues

The list is long and the work hard.  Some non-NCO's see the role as glamorous and easy.  That could not be further from the truth.  Being an NCO involves a lot of hard work and dedication to the unit.  It is not an easy ride being an NCO, but it does attract certain privileges.
