SQUADRON HISTORY
115 (Peterborough) Squadron ATC,
was originally formed on 1st May 1939 as an ADCC squadron. It has had it's
Headquarters in the site of RAF Peterborough since it's early days.
Initially the squadron was formed in a drill hall in
the town centre, later permanent accommodation was found in a wooden hut on
the RAF Peterborough site. The original hut burnt down in strange circumstances on Friday 13th.
The squadron moved into an adjacent wooden hut, by then building work had
started on a completely new brick building.
The brick building was opened in 1982, and having toilets for both males and
females, enabled us to be one of the first squadrons in the country to admit
girls. Shortly after the squadron had moved into the new building the
wooden hut again burnt down on Friday 13th. A lot of the
squadrons records were lost in this fire. Thankfully, we have a ghost of an
airman killed in a flying accident in the second world war to watch over the
present building, and have had no devastating fires. Staff have definitely
noticed something creepy about the building when they have been working
there alone…….
SQUADRON CREST
 The
squadron crest shows the ATC falcon above the City of Peterborough coat
of arms. The motto “Ardenter Prosequor Ales” is Latin, and it means
“Eagerly do I pursue my winged course”.
The Royal
blue and yellow background was adopted in 2003 as a mark of respect for 115
Squadron RAF, whose colours appeared on their aircraft.
